Trek Summary
The heroic life of St. Pier Giorgio Frassati is the grounding inspiration for the Verso L’Alto Trek. St. Pier Giorgio was a man who not only loved our Lord in others, but found great closeness to him in the mountains. Beginning in 2024, the first year Verso L’Alto Trek brought a group of young adults—both nervous and excited—to the heights of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. The second Verso L’Alto Trek drew young people closer to the life of Blessed Pier Giorgio by taking them to his native country, Italy. The trek began in the Dolomite Mountains and continued in pilgrimage to Loretto, Assisi, Nettuno, and Rome.
This year Verso L’Alto Trek #3 will not only return to American soil, but will bring the young people to America’s most prized land, Yellowstone. This area, which sits within the boarders of three states, is so awe inspiring that President Teddy Roosevelt established the National Park system and deemed this land America’s first National Park.
Pursuing a deeper relationship with our Lord and a developed personal formation, the young people will board flights and head west. Upon touch down in the mountain west the crew will load into vans and head for beautiful Eastern Idaho where they will spend their first five days. This time will include acclimation to the elevation, bonding as a crew, and two full days in YNP itself. The next three days and two nights will take the crew into remote northern Rocky Mountain wilderness just outside the park. The third and final leg of the trip includes two nights in South West Montana in the Gallatin River Valley topped off with a day of whitewater rafting.
Communal Prayer, Mass, confession, silent prayer, and countless opportunites to encounter our Lord in his first great book of Creation will be the core of this trek.

Formation
Verso L’Alto Trek #3 builds on the best parts of Verso L’Alto Treks 1 & 2. Knowing the longings of the human heart and the beauty of creation that we will be surrounded by, the opportunities to engage and go further in one’s faith will be manifold. This will include times in prayer and deep talks specifically written for the hearts on this trek.
Formation for this trek begins before the trek itself. Stay tuned for the dates of our formation meetings starting in the spring and continuing in late May and June.
Will there be camping on this Trek?
Yes. Verso L’Alto Trek #1 was centered around an experience of camping in the remote mountain wilderness of Colorado. This trek, the Verso L’Alto Trek #3 brings this experience back for one portion of trip: 3 days and 2 nights in the high alpine backcountry. If this sounds awesome but you don’t know anything about camping or alpinism, then this is the trip for you. The majority of people will have little to no alpine experience outside of past Verso L’Alto Treks, so you will be right at home.
Will there be hotels?
Thankfully not. In addition to camping there will be nights of sleeping in cabins with limited beds. Be sure to bring a sleeping pad as many nights may be spent sleeping on the floor or if desired, outside the cabin in tents.
How do I sign up?
To foster an environment for encounter and community, the size of this trip will be capped at 20 people, including those facilitating the trek. Once the trip is full, it's full. Take advantage of this opportunity while there are still spots.
To reserve your spot bring cash or a check for $200 to the St. John the Baptist parish office with Verso L’Alto and your name in the memo line. Checks can be made out to St. John the Baptist Parish.

Every day, my love for the mountains grows more and more. If my studies permitted, I’d spend whole days in the mountains contemplating the Creator’s greatness in that pure air.
